The vertical axis WindStor(SM) system is designed to generate, distribute and store electricity at urban and off-grid locations with ground or rooftop-mounted WindStor Wind Turbines, a proprietary 'system integrator' and a battery.

As opposed the normal airplane-propeller design, the WindStor design features three curved blades that come together at the top of the mast. According to its designers, the turbine is ideal for use near population centres due to innovative safety redundancies and noise reduction capabilities, as well as a completely different aesthetic appearance.

The sytem is designed to let business and building owners retain the stability of utility power while enjoying energy cost savings without financial risks, while also reducing fossil fuel consumption and air pollution.

While the new turbine’s benefits will not be known until it has seen commercial application, its design has been positively received by many in the industry.

“This breakthrough design is one of the most innovative we have seen in years,” said US Association of Energy Engineers director of business development Brian Douglas.

“We anticipate great things from this cutting edge wind power design and system, which seems to embody both renewable energy benefits and emerging technology advantages.”
