EDL to build new US and UK landfill gas power plants

QUEENSLAND-BASED renewable energy company, Energy Developments Limited, is moving to develop larg...

In the UK, EDL will develop an 8MW LFG project at Pitsea with electricity generation expected in late 2005. This project will increase the company’s UK LFG generation to 55MW.

Pitsea is one of the UK’s largest undeveloped LFG prospects and is near EDL’s existing LFG projects at Rainham (14MW) and Mucking (15MW) in Essex.

ENE has also committed to a further 1.4MW expansion at the Rainham LFG project and continues the process of asset optimisation with engines relocated in recent months to projects with full or partial exposure to the UK Renewable Obligations scheme.

The company says this will further enhance its improving LFG earnings base with the strong trend in green credit pricing expected to continue for at least the next two to three years.

In the US, EDL will develop the first phase (8MW) of the Covel Gardens LFG project in San Antonio, Texas close to the company’s existing Tessman Road LFG Project (8MW).

Covel Gardens is EDL’s first project with Waste Management Inc, the largest solid waste management company in the US.

The project is expected to expand significantly in coming years, subject to planning and permits. It will use Caterpillar 3520 LFG engine technology and electricity generation is expected by late 2005.

The Covel Gardens LFG project will lift EDL’s US LFG portfolio to 65MW.
