Federal Industry Minister, Ian Macfarlane, announced Sustainable Technologies Industries (STI) as one of 29 Australian companies chosen to receive a total of almost $26.5 million in grant and loan funding.

STI, who specialise in developing and supplying third generation solar products, has been awarded a $970,693 R&D Start grant. Their project integrates photovoltaic cells into building facades, enabling the structure to generate its own electricity and channel any surplus into a domestic grid. The technology is based on artificial photosynthesis.

"This project not only has strong environment credentials, it has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emisssions in a simple yet effective way," the Minister said.
