WEST AUSTRALIAN GAS INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT AWARD: An outstanding contribution to the West Australian Gas Industry has been recognised with the announcement of Dr Des Kelly as the recipient of the 2005 West Australian Gas Industry Development Award.
Awarded annually, the West Australian Gas Industry Development Award is an initiative of the North West Shelf Gas and the Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME) to recognise the special contribution of an individual or company to the development of the domestic gas industry in WA.
CME chief executive Tim Shanahan paid tribute to Dr Kelly’s service to the gas industry and the state.
“This award recognises a long career dedicated to the development of Western Australia”, Shanahan said.
“The economic benefits that the state is now enjoying as a result of our thriving gas industry has depended on the exceptional contributions of people such as Dr Kelly”.
Over a 50 year career in the Western Australia public service, Kelly was involved in many significant developments within the state’s gas industry.
As chief executive officer of the Department of Resources Development during the 1990s, Kelly was involved in significant projects including the Mount Newman Mining Project and the North West Shelf Venture LNG development.
Kelly also chaired the committee that oversaw the sale of the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline and the sale of the initial public offering of Alinta Gas.
Kelly was selected from a list of strong contenders by a panel of industry leaders.
Previous recipients of the prestigious award have included Alcoa of Australia Ltd, Sir Charles Court and Harry Butler.
