The survey consists of six seismic traverses designed to create a high-quality seismic grid over the Kimu structure.
It is part of the larger 2007 Guavi River seismic campaign which consists of a total of 150km of 2D seismic over PRL-08 and PPL-240 that is expected to be completed by the end of August.
The Guavi River survey aims to identify additional exploration targets in the acreage.
Kimu has estimated recoverable reserves of about 905 billion cubic feet of gas.
The field, located about 60km west of the Barikewa gas field and 50km southwest of the SE Gobe oilfield, was discovered in January 1999 by the Kimu-1 discovery well.
Kimu and Barikewa may provide feedstock for two petrochemical plants to be built in Port Moresby by 2011.
Partners in PRL-08 are operator Oil Search (60.71%), Mosaic Oil (28.57%) and Cue Energy (10.72%).
