Endeavour partners with Cognizant for digital solutions

Company accused of overcharging hopes digital will help sharpen its customer focus

The company, which is responsible for the supply of power to some 2.4 million people across Sydney's Greater Western and rural parts of NSW including the Blue Mountains and Illawarra, has just recently been accused of helping to drive up state power prices by state Labor party, and of overcharging customers A$1 billion over three years.

Increases in network prices, which can account for half of power bills, have pushed up bills, but after the Australian Energy Regulator suggested the company took more than $337 million more than allowed in revenue it has suggested returning some two thirds of that to customers over five years via lower bills.

Whether better digital processes will lower the often murky issue of power pricing is yet to be seen, but Cognizant did promise today that it would be helping Endeavour "harness real-time data for deeper business insight and be more agile to meet changing business needs".

It will do this via its business and SAP experts designing then deploying what it calls "a future-ready, scalable SAP platform.

SAP is actually a separate technology company based in Germany that provides varied commercial software offerings.

"As we embark upon a journey of technology modernisation, we are working with a partner with a deep understanding of not just technology, but also the deep domain knowledge that underpins the entire process," Endeavour CIO Andrew Bettenay said today.

"Cognizant's extensive SAP practice, world-wide implementation experience and the speed with which they pulled together a comprehensive response, aligned perfectly with our business needs.

Cognizant will digitally transform the energy company's procurement and supplier management, human resources and finance systems using the SAP  S/4 HANA suite and a range of the software company's Cloud Solutions including Success Factors, Ariba and Concur and also the SAP Industry-Specific Solution for Utilities Industry.

"Endeavour Energy is making fundamental, technology-enabled changes across its core enterprise functions to build a data-driven digital organisation," Cognizant head of APAC Jayajyoti Sengupta said.

"We are building a robust and scalable enterprise system using our market-leading digital and process capabilities, coupled with our long-standing alliance with SAP, to support Endeavour Energy's vision for the future."

"This partnership will help us enhance our customer focus and increase our responsiveness to the changing industry landscape," Bettenay added.
