The trust will appropriate funds set aside in 2005 and 2006 for financing equity in the PNG-Australia gas pipeline project, which was abandoned earlier this year, the National newspaper reported.

Finance and Treasury Minister Patrick Pruaitch said the PNG Government remained committed to supporting PNG-based projects to commercialise the country's natural gas resources and would participate in such projects once their viability was proven.

He added the Government may set aside part of the 2008 budget to increase the trust fund's size.
