Their project, LPG Fractionation Unit Advanced Control Revamp, collected the award for the “Oil, Gas and Hydrocarbons” category in addition to the “Overall Project of the Year” Award.
The project improved the capacity of the LPG Fractionation Unit following the commissioning of the North West Shelf’s fourth liquefied natural gas train in late 2004.
A complete redesign and rebuild of the Advanced Control applications on the unit delivered a throughput increase of more than 10% without any hardware modifications or interruptions to the process operation.
The judges said the project demonstrated command of leading edge technology coupled with a holistic approach to improving plant efficiency and operability resulting in an excellent payback.
