Dolphin Energy is made up of the UAE government, Total SA and Occidental Petroleum Corp. The firm had wanted to transport natural gas from Qatar to the UAE via an underwater pipeline.
In an interview with the news service, pipe supplier Mitsui & Co spokesman Eiki Okada said, “Mitsui won a contract last year to supply 380,000 tons of steel pipe [but] Total SA and Occidental Petroleum Corp may face delays on [their] Persian Gulf gas transport project due to late delivery of pipeline.”
“Any delays happening with the project are because of problems setting up a coating facility for the pipes. Mitsui isn’t responsible for the coating plant,” added the official without elaborating further.
In reply, Dolphin Energy said, “The project isn’t suffering delays and almost 15% of work was completed by September, with gas scheduled to flow on schedule by the end of 2006. The company has received 23% of the entire steel order for the project from Mitsui.
