Toyama prefecture is adjacent to the quake-hit Niigata prefecture.

In a statement Nippon Oil spokesman Tomoji Nakamura said, “The 60,000 barrels-a-day refinery is operating normally. A lubricants plant and three distribution centres in Niigata prefecture also were undamaged.”

“Nippon Oil so far hasn’t checked whether fuel shipments to about 300 service stations [we]operate] in Niigata prefecture are disrupted [but] some of the service stations [are] without power.

“Oil tanks in Niigata prefecture owned by Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K., Royal Dutch/Shell Group’s Japanese refining unit, were also unaffected by the quakes,” added Nakamura.
