The 155-megawatt La Higuera and 145mW La Conflencia projects, near the Tinguirica River, 140km from Santiago, would more than double Pacific Hydro’s existing output of 230mW when they came online, the company said.

Pacific Hydro said it expected to begin construction, in conjunction with joint partner Statkraft Norfund, by mid-2005.

Pacific Hydro said Chile’s rising domestic electricity prices and high-growth economy made it an attractive investment option.

“Chile is an important market for the company and our operating Coya and Pangal projects are delivering excellent returns,” managing director Jeff Harding said.
