Reliance calls for deregulation of Indian gas market

The MD of India’s Reliance Industries Ltd, Mukesh Ambani, has called for the Indian central government to deregulate the country’s natural gas market.

In a statement Ambani said, “Reliance [is] developing other alternative fuels, such as bio-diesel, due to the cost benefits they offered consumers. Natural gas can be an alternative fuel in the medium term and we believe deregulation in the gas sector will unleash benefits to consumers.”

“The Government is actively considering deregulating gas, which is presently under the administered price mechanism, [but] we should look at alternative fuels that alleviate cost factors and ease pressure on the consumers,” he added.
