Santos gives CBM industry another boost

Santos has just announced the opening of its new $60 million Scotia gas processing plant - Queensland largest CBM gas plant - that will supply the Swanbank Power Station near Ipswich with 120 petajoules of gas for up to 15 years. With two newly installed combined cycle gas-fired turbines, this will make it Queensland's largest gas-fired power station.

"Scotia is significant because it is Santos's first fully-owned and operated coalbed methane gas project, and is the biggest of its type in Queensland," said Santos general manager for Northern Australia Rod Rayner.

Earlier this year, the burgeoning Queensland CBM industry got a shot in the arm after the State Government awarded a big gas supply contract for the Townsville Power Station to Queensland state government entity Enertrade and a subsidiary of Macquarie Bank.
