According to an unidentified official from CNPC subsidiary, Tarim Southwest Co, “As Wucan-1 is the first discovery well in the [Yilake] structure, the general plan for development in the area needs to be made, and the period of the production test could be longer than usual.”
The well is 6,394 metre deep and is the second important discovery in the Tarim Basin following the discovery of the Kela-2 Gas Field. It currently yields more than 70 tons of oil daily.
In a statement CNPC said, “[We] have obtained commercial oil and gas flows from the well late last year and the breakthrough enabled it to find China's first 100 million ton volatile oil reservoir, later named the Yilake Structure.”
“The structure lies 33 km north of Wensu in western Xinjiang's Aksu and is geologically located in the Wushi Sag of the Kuga Depression in the Tarim Basin,” added the company.
