Tangguh construction consortium chosen

The consortium to handle the contract includes KBR, Japan's JGC Corp and Indonesia's engineering firm P.T. Pertafenikki.

The plant will be built on Berau Bay in Irian Jaya province to process natural gas from offshore fields containing 14.4 tcf of proven natural gas reserves, which BP, CNOOC, and several Japanese companies will develop.

The plant, designed to produce 7 million tonnes/year of LNG, will supply 2.6 million tonnes/year to China's Fujian gas terminal under a 25-year contract starting in early 2007.
