NWS signs off on Train four LNG deal

The North West Shelf joint venture today signed one of the new LNG sales agreements that underpinned the expansion of the LNG project to four trains. The 400,000 tonne per annum, 15 year term deal was originally done in February, 2001.

Tohoku Electric, which has a customer base in excess of 12 million people, is a new Japanese LNG customer for the Shelf partners.

NWS CEO Steve Ollerearnshaw said the number of Japanese customers had increased from 10 compared to eight when the NWS starter exporting LNG in 1989.

“This will take our overall production capacity to 11 million tonnes,” he said.
