John Chambers has been appointed Manager, Exploration for Santos' Central Business Unit which operates the Cooper Basin asset in northern South Australia and southwest Queensland.
Santos and its Joint Venture partners hold 43,000 square kilometres of acreage in the Cooper Basin which supplies gas to customers in NSW, SA, Queensland and the ACT.
Chambers holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from Melbourne University and has 17 years experience in both the onshore and offshore oil and gas industry in Australia, South East Asia and South America.
In his new position, Chambers will be responsible for all exploration activity in the Cooper Basin. His appointment comes as Santos embarks on a renewed exploration and well optimisation program in the Cooper Basin.
In 2003-2004, Santos will recommence its wildcat exploration activity in the Cooper Basin and will pursue additional programs designed to increase the recovery factor for known oil and gas accumulations in the province.
Santos' Managing Director, Mr John Ellice-Flint, said: "Chambers has an impressive track record in the oil and gas business, particularly in remote and challenging areas and we are delighted to have John join the Santos team."
