BHPB awards GoM deepwater subsea contracts to Intec

THE Shenzi joint venture, led by operator BHP Billiton Petroleum, has awarded the deepwater subse...

The award is a continuation of engineering support that commenced with pre-feasibility, front-end engineering and design, and detail engineering and will continue through December 2008.

The Shenzi project is located in Green Canyon Blocks 609, 610, 653, and 654 in roughly 4400 feet (1341m) of water.

The subsea development includes three main drill centres supporting up to 15 oil wells.

Initial production is routed through four manifolds via four production SCRs.

The Intec scope for this work includes detailed design of the Shenzi in-field risers, flowlines, manifolds, rigid pipe jumpers, gas-lift distribution units, thermal analysis, support for the invitation to bid and technical review of bids, technical review of third party designs, and subsea equipment installation support.

Shenzi is due to begin production in 2009 and is expected to reach full production in late 2010.

BHPB’s “base case” for Shenzi’s reserves is 350-400 million barrels of oil equivalent.

The company holds a 44% stake and is operator of the Shenzi development and co-venturers are Repsol YPF and Hess (each holding a 28% stake).
