According to a report from the National, PNG’s daily newspaper, Kutubu Transport manager Andrew Ross said several trucks transporting goods for Oil Search from Lae had to be recalled due to the road conditions.
The road between Yombi and Kubame was said to be the worst affected.
Ross said supply trucks for Kutubu, Moro and other project sites had been forced to remain in the company’s yard since Sunday, which had resulted in the company sustaining substantial losses.
Locals have reportedly been charging stranded motorists up to 10K ($US3.50) for assistance in getting out of the potholes.
Oil Search managing director Peter Botten could not be reached for comment.
Yesterday Oil Search announced total sales revenue for the year of $US638.4 million, a 60% increase on the previous year. Oil production for the year was a record 12.2 million barrels of oil equivalent.
The company has allocated $US100-110 million for exploration on its ground in both the PNG and the Middle East.
