ABB wins Serbian oil refinery contract

AUTOMATION giant ABB has been awarded a contract to provide a system for the NIS oil refinery in ...

Under the contract, ABB will deliver systems to control the refinery’s secondary units and LPG plant, using the ABB Industrial IT Extended Automation System 800xA, the first of its kind in use in Serbia & Montenegro.

ABB beat out its competitors by working closely with the client, designing a composite solution that includes the 800xA system, process communication control via Profibus and HART protocols, field devices ranging from flow meters and control valves to process analysers. ABB will also be responsible for commissioning and support and training of refinery operators.

ABB believes it won the contract due to its ability to supply and support the refinery’s diverse requirements and the 800xA’s ability to extend beyond standard process control into asset management, safety control, simulation and reporting, among other functions.

"We are very proud and excited to be the first ABB company to supply System 800xA Extended Automation for a true refinery application in Serbia. We look forward to a continued close working relationship with [NIS]," said Malek Chebaro, export department manager for ABB Automation.
