"The Block 35 project is a pure exploration venture and one of several opportunities Voyager is considering in onshore Yemen," the company said.

"As with any oil or gas prospect, a successful campaign in Yemen will require good science, patience and perseverance."

Voyager said Yemen continued to be attractive for several reasons, including good fiscal terms, oil prone basins that were still under-explored, a potential for medium-to-large prospects, and favourable location close to major infrastructure and markets.

Voyager was also attracted by the opportunity to partner with Oil Search, "an experienced, well credentialed operator".

Interests in Block 35 are Oil Search (Yemen) Limited (Operator) 31%, Sipetrol International S.A. 30%, Saba Yemen Oil Company Ltd 19%, Voyager Energy Limited 15%, Saba Yemen Oil Company Ltd 5%.
