Simpson oil field brought into production

Harriet Joint Venture partners have announced that the Simpson oil field, located offshore Western Australia, was brought into production.

The Simpson-3H horizontal is presently producing at a rate of 14,000 barrels per day (bpd), which is better than initial expectations of 8,000 bpd.

The other two wells in the Simpson field, Simpson-1 and Tanami-4, are expected to be brought into production this week with planned production rates of 5,000 bpd. The Simpson field operator, Apache Energy (68.5%), said Simpson production will increase total liquids production from the Harriet fields to around 20-25,000 bpd until the South Plato and Gibson oils are brought on stream around May 2002.

"Numerous other prospects in this area are on the drilling schedule for early 2002, commencing with Victoria-1 in January," Tap Oil, which is one of the participants in the joint venture said. The field is owned by Apache, Kufpec and Tap Oil.
