In a letter to Consumer and Employment Protection Minister John Kobelke, ACCC head Professor Professor Allan Fels urged Mr Kolbelke not to take his fuel plans any further until a detailed study of their impact could be carried out.
"It appears..these fuel price regulations may have been introduced too quickly without full consideration of their implications or the necessary administrative details for their successful implementation," Mr Fels said.
The State Government is also reconsidering its position on regional fuel price capping following the general lack of support during the public consultation process.
In a statement to the media, Mr Kobelke said 75 per cent of the responses to the public comment period were against the introduction of fuel price capping in regional areas. "There was a very poor turnout of consumers at the eight public forums held across the State - the most we got at any one meeting was eight in Albany," Mr Kobelke said.
"Most of the submissions and people at the forums were from the fuel industry."
