Nautronix wins Navy acoustic contract

While Nautronix shareholders wait to see what eventuates with the remaining bidder for the business following a global takeover battle, the salesmen haven't stopped spruiking, judging from the most recent Nautronix release.

Nautronix has been awarded a $5.6 million contract to supply a Portable Acoustic Sonobuoy Ranging (PASOR) System to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

Nautronix said the PASOR system will be used to measure the acoustic signatures of the Collins Class submarines as part of normal vessel operations and to improve the overall performance of the platforms. In addition, the PASOR system can be used for the acoustic measurement of surface vessels.

"The PASOR system marks the introduction of a new methodology for the accurate measurement of underway radiated acoustic noise. Previously such measurements have been performed using fixed arrays of hydrophones often necessitating vessels to travel significant distances to a fixed facility for ranging," the company said. " The portable nature of the PASOR system will enable the RAN to measure the acoustic signatures of their submarines in open water."

The contract is scheduled to run for a 26 month period commencing immediately and will be performed in the company's head office in Fremantle.
