Consortium bids for Sumatra-Singapore pipeline

A Petronas-led consortium, which includes the likes of Singapore Petroleum Co, Gulf Indonesia and Talisman Energy, has submitted a bid for a stake in the $500 million Sumatra-Singapore natural gas pipeline.

PT Perusahaan Gas Negara, which holds the transportation contract of the pipeline, is offering 25-40 per cent of the planned pipeline. The deadline for final bid submissions is this month.

PowerGas, a unit of Singapore Power, signed a $US9 billion, 20-year gas sales agreement with Pertamina to buy 2.27 trillion cubic feet of gas from the gas fields in South Sumatra starting in 2003. Initially, 150 million cubic feet of gas will supplied on a daily basis with this figure rising to 350 mmscfd by 2009.
