Pilots land on wrong platform
BOND Offshore has been forced to remove two pilots from its roster after they landed on the wrong platform in the North Sea.
One of the aviation company's Sikorsky S-92 helicopters was flown about 14.5km off course, missing its intended target, the Nexen-operated Buzzard complex.
The helicopter, which was carrying one passenger, instead landed on the Ensco 120 jack-up rig also operated by Nexen.
Unions slam offshore authority
UNIONS are calling for the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority to release its full investigation findings into the double fatality accident on the Stena Clyde rig which occurred on the Bass Strait two years ago.
NOPSEMA's initial findings in 2012 found that the two workers, Peter Meddens from Darwin and Barry Denholm from Lossiemouth in Scotland, died after they were struck by a manual break out tong being used to free a stuck drill pipe string.
However, the authority has acknowledged that more needs to come out of this tragedy and this week revealed that legal action will cause further delays.
Inpex books rig for WA drilling campaign
TRANSOCEAN'S semi-submersible Jack Bates rig, used to drill Santos' Lasseter-1/ST1 discovery well in Western Australia's Browse Basin, is booked to spud two wells for Ichthys LNG project operator Inpex.
The Switzerland-based offshore driller's recent fleet update summary revealed that Jack Bates was awarded a two-well contract in Australia at a day rate of $US420,000 ($A450,830), with the work to contribute $59 million to Transocean's backlog.
Upstream Online reported that the work was part of an Inpex-led three-well campaign.
Pump solves CSG production issue
AN AUSTRALIAN technical services company has launched a device to extend the run life of pumps in Australian CSG wells.
WellDog said its Progressing Cavity Pump Defender could reduce production interruptions for CSG producers by resolving the costly issue of settling solids.
The PCP Defender is a valve that automatically diverts the solids settling in CSG production fluid during shutdown into the annulus and away from the pump.
WellDog says its PCP Defender to be the first diverter valve for use with rod-driven progressing cavity pumps.
Collie power station to be privatised: ETU
THE Electrical Trades Union of Western Australia has made claims that the state government is planning to privatise Collie power station as workers enter their fourth day of work stoppages at the site in response to a new enterprise bargaining agreement.
"Everyone knows that Colin Barnett is resorting to privatisation to pay off the record level of state debt that has accumulated during his time as premier," ETUWA secretary Les McLaughlan said.
"Colin Barnett privatised AlintaGas and the Dampier to Bunbury natural gas pipeline when he was energy minister in the Court government and was working on a plan to privatise Western Power before the Liberals lost the 2001 state election.
"By eroding the working conditions of workers at the plant, Mr Barnett is clearly trying to make Collie power station more attractive to potential purchasers."
