Kongsberg wins deepwater vessel contract

KONGSBERG Maritime has won a contract from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry to supply and integrat...

The contract is worth more than 230 million Norwegian krone ($A41.9 million) to Kongsberg and will play out across all stages of construction of the vessel, with the technological supply scope including generators, switchboards, automation, navigation, radio and satellite communications - to name a few.

The JSD 6000 will provide high-end turnkey opportunities in the deepwater industry as well as expanding access to shallow water engineering, procurement, construction and installation projects.

"This is a milestone contract for Kongsberg Maritime Engineering and one of the most extensive 'full picture' contracts that Kongsberg Maritime has secured to date," Kongsberg Maritime president Geir Haoy said.

"Our approach of acting as a single supplier for all aspects of maritime vessel technology combined with being close to the customer in all major shipbuilding regions positions us as a natural partner for large integrated projects."

The vessel is expected to be available for construction and installation activities in early 2017.
