The engine maker will supply Petrobras with advanced maintenance and repair services to support 15 Rolls-Royce RB211-G62 industrial gas power-generation units installed on four Petrobra oil platforms operating in the pre-salt Campos basin.
The four Petrobras platforms, which together can produce more than 500,000 barrels of oil per day, or 25% of Brazil's entire output, rely on the 375 megawatt of Rolls-Royce generated power to maintain a consistently high production output.
The long-term service agreement contract, which has a potential value of up to $US220 million over its term, will help ensure the Rolls-Royce units operate at peak performance levels of efficiency and reliability.
Petrobras general manager of the Rio de Janeiro operational unit Eberaldo de Almeida Neto said over the past five years the Rolls-Royce power generation technology had helped the company meet its oil and gas production objectives for those platforms.
More than 50 Rolls-Royce engineers and technicians are working on the project, most based full-time on the four platforms.
The Rolls-Royce Energy workshop at Macae in Brazil supports their work.
Rolls-Royce will next year inaugurate a $US100 million-plus investment, purpose-built gas turbine package, assembly and test facility in Santa Cruz in Rio de Janeiro state.
