QGC said the Kenya East-4 well, spudded on April 30, intersected 31.6m of coal in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures after reaching a total depth of 845m.
The well in ATP 648P is part of an extended exploration program designed to evaluate the area's CSM potential.
According to QGC, Kenya East-4 has been suspended pending the arrival of a workover rig.
The drilling rig Ensign Rig 48 has been released and is moving to the Jen-3 well location.
The Jen-3 well is also targeting the Juandah and Taroom measures.
After wireline logging in both wells and a drill stem test in Kenya East-4, the Juandah and Taroom coal measures will be underreamed and 7-inch pre-perforated casing set across the Walloon Subgroup.
In ATP 651P the Ross-1 well, spudded on May 8, also intersected 28m of coal in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures after reaching a total depth of 909.6m.
OGC said the Des Caling Rig 2 is setting up to conduct the first drill stem test to evaluate the permeability across the Juandah and Taroom measures.
QGC holds a 55% interest in both ATP 648P and ATP 651P.
