The five-year Al-Khafji contract covers several expansion and renovation projects at onshore and offshore sites. It includes provision for engineering studies, basic and detailed engineering, front-end engineering design, preparation of tender packages, and vendor and construction supervision.
Al-Khafji is a joint venture owned by Saudi Aramco subsidiary Aramco Gulf Operations Company and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation subsidiary Kuwait Gulf Oil Company.
It is responsible for offshore oil and gas exploration, development and production in the border area between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The company operates extensive offshore and onshore production and processing facilities in the area, producing about 300,000 barrels of oil per day.
Engineering services for the contract will be predominantly carried out at WorleyParsons’ Perth offices, with site work undertaken in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Chief executive John Grill said this contract reflection of the company's position as a global services provider.
"It is further evidence of WorleyParsons’ increased capabilities in the hydrocarbons sector,” he said.
Grill said the company’s first half performance reflected the continuation of buoyant trading conditions and a good operational performance.
“The result was underpinned by underlying earnings growth of approximately 70%, with our international operations contributing over 65% of our earnings before tax in the half year. Our contracted revenue profile in asset services and for major projects continues to lengthen,” he said.
WorleyParsons expects to record a modest improvement on the first half result during the next six months.
