HSBC to use wind for 30% of power

In a move similar to the sourcing of 5% of Starbuck’s Coffee energy from clean sources, HSBC has pledged to move towards clean energy to fulfil 30% of the needs of its 400-plus North American branches.

“We want to be the first bank in the world to have zero greenhouse gas emissions, and a cornerstone of this effort is powering our branches and offices with 30% clean, natural wind power,” said Martin Glynn, HSBC Bank USA president.

HSBC estimates over 36 million pounds of carbon dioxide will be prevented from entering the atmosphere due to its purchase, equal to removing of 3500 cars from the road.
