The orders were for the largest transformer banks and highest voltage class transformers to be installed in India, ABB India said.
The transformers and shunt reactors for both projects will be manufactured at ABB's factory in Sweden. ABB India's role will mostly involve local interface, logistics, commissioning, and after-sales support.
ABB will supply extra high voltage systems to NTCP’s Sipat power station near Jabalur in Chattisgharh, and similar systems to Power Grid of India’s Seoni substation to evacuate power from the 3000MW Sipat plant.
Both orders require ABB to supply, transport, erect and commission the extra high voltage systems.
"India's transmission system presently operates mainly at 400kV levels. Extra high voltage systems will help in augmenting and strengthening the network, enhancing efficiency as well as improving grid reliability and power quality," said Ravi Uppal, vice chairman and managing director of ABB India.
