UK firm supplies steam turbines for Chinguetti FPSO

UK engineering company Peter Brotherhood Ltd has won a substantial contract with shipping company...

Peter Brotherhood will design and manufacture two 24MW condensing steam turbine-driven alternator sets – the largest steam turbines built for an FPSO vessel, the company said in a statement.

Each set will consist of a turbine, gearbox and alternator, all mounted on a common bedplate which incorporates the oil system. The turbines will accept steam from gas-fired boilers on the vessel and will exhaust to a separate condenser.

The two steam turbine-driven alternator sets will be tested on steam at Peter Brotherhood's manufacturing facility and will be delivered to Singapore for installation on the top deck of the FPSO vessel in February.

Peter Brotherhood said it had extensive experience in manufacturing steam turbine driven alternator sets for installation on FPSO vessels.

It has been designing and manufacturing steam turbine driven alternator sets for FPSOs since 1981, having installed turbines moored off the coast of West Africa, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil and the North Sea.

Bergesen d.y. ASA is a leading international supplier of maritime transportation services and tanker-based offshore solutions. The company transports energy products all over the world and has growing presence with FPSOs for benign waters off West Africa.
