KBR is also undergoing US Justice Department and US Securities and Exchange Commission investigation for alleged overcharging in its Iraq fuel and food service contracts.

In a statement Halliburton said, “[We will] comply with the subpoena. [Our] links to Iran through the Cayman Islands unit [are] in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.”

“We intend to co-operate with the government’s investigation,” added the firm.

Halliburton was quick to defend the subpoena.

According to Halliburton spokeswoman Wendy Hall, “It is important to understand, especially in the current political environment, that this is not a condemnation of the company, but a method of further studying the facts.”

“We welcome a thorough review of any and all of the company’s business,” she added.
