SEA gas pipeline opened

The $500 million pipeline stretches 690 km across Victoria and South Australia linking the Minerva gas processing plant and the Pelican point power station.

Completed in December the pipeline was prematurely put into use in January when an explosion at Santos’ Moomba gas plant left eastern Australia short of industrial gas supplies.

The new pipeline has the capacity to meet about 80% per cent of South Australia’s current demand for natural gas and is a joint venture between International Power, Origin Energy and TXU.
