APPEA said ARC, with partner Origin Energy, set a new standard for the onshore export of crude by road in Australia. It said the development of the Crude Export System has benefits not only for ARC, but also the onshore industry as a whole and the local communities in which our industry benefits.
ARC was able to reduce the number of tanker movements, reducing emission significantly and the risk of road accidents, while increasing payload which had efficiencies for the economics of the project.
The tanker fleet, owned by Mitchell Corp, has state of the art valves which detect when the tank is approaching capacity and automatically cuts off the flow of crude into the truck. BP also streamlined its operations at the Kwinana refinery end delivery point to increase efficiencies.
Nexen Petroleum was a finalist for introducing new technology into Australia in a field nearing the end of its life.
Esso was also a finalist for its efforts in reducing their greenhouse emissions by 28% from its 1990 levels.
