A Chamber of Minerals and Energy (WA) report launched earlier today said that from the 40,000 direct employees in Western Australia, economic modeling showed that more than 80,000 other jobs were created as an economic flow on effect.

The resources sector was the clear leader in terms of expenditure on goods and services, with an annual spend of $2.3 billion, leading the property and business services sector which posted a $1.05 billion turnover.

The General Manager of service company Monadelphous Ltd, Arif Erdash, said his company had experienced an upswing in both Queensland and Western Australia, although the CME report covered only WA.

CME policy director, David Parker, said another of the important findings in the report was the key links from resources back to both regional centres, which was obvious, but also directly back to the city.

"The are direct benefits to be found for the people along the St George's Tce, to out in the industrial areas of Perth such as Canning Vale, Osborne Park and Welshpool," said Parker.

"The sector is now mature enough to be able to consider effectively exporting our services internationally, as global suppliers are looking to WA for expertise in the resources industries."
