Kiwi seismic wraps up

The Polar Duke seismic survey vessel has almost finished its extensive multi-permit New Zealand program.

Kiwi seismic wraps up

The vessel arrived in New Zealand waters several months ago and it first shot about 2000km of 2D seismic in Great South Basin licence PEP 38215 for listed Aussie company Bounty Oil and Gas.

It then moved north to offshore Taranaki where it has finished shooting up to 1000km of seismic for Todd Energy over that company’s newly-awarded licences PEP 38486 and 487, and over the nearby Karewa gas-condensate discovery in PEP 38602.

It is believed the Polar Duke also shot about 400km of seismic for OMV New Zealand over its newly-acquired block PEP-38484, approximately 25km southeast of the Kupe gas field.

The vessel is now in the last stages of a 300km shoot over Discovery Geo’s Awakino South prospect further north in licence PEP 38479. “It’s about three-quarters done right now and, once we’ve analysed this data we could move to have some 3D shot later this year,” company president Bernett Martin told EnergyReview.Net from Houston today.
