Meridian's Turner powers to the high life

Meridian Energy chief executive Keith Turner is turning his hand to running international airport...

He has recently been appointed to the board of Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL), which is applying to the Commerce Commission for an exemption under the Electricity Industry Reform Act in relation to his appointment.

AIAL is seeking an exemption from the requirements of the EIR Act, which would deem Turner to have material influence over Meridian’s electricity supply business and AIAL’s electricity lines business (in respect of its internal network). The act usually prohibits such a cross-involvement - between electricity generators-retailers and lines companies.
