Aquila shakeup sees AlintaGas power up

AlintaGas and fund manager AMP Henderson will control Australia's third largest energy group after unravelling the Aquila-controlled United Energy.

United will come off the ASX boards while the Alinta/AMP group will now supply energy to over 1.5 million customers in Victoria and Western Australia in an agglomeration of over $4 billion in assets.

This leaves only AGL and Origin with larger networks.

Alinta/AMP put a $3.15 offer to United Energy shareholders which they will have to approve at a meeting in June.

This is almost 25% above the average United trading price for the previous six months. Several other offers were received, according to reports, but none above $3.
