CB&I engineering, construction and maintenance operating group president Patrick Mullen said the award built on CB&I's involvement in many of the major LNG and other oil and gas projects in the region.
Wheatstone, located at Ashburton North, 12km west of Onslow, will consist of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum and a domestic gas plant.
The project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron, Apache Corporation, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company, Shell and Kyushu Electric Power Company together with PE Wheatstone, which is part-owned by TEPCO.
Bechtel is responsible for the front-end engineering and design works of the onshore gas plant component of the project.
