The Texas-based engineering and construction firm yesterday said it will be construct a fifth liquefied natural gas production train with a design capacity of 4.2 million tonnes per annum (MMtpa).

CB&I said the Phase 5 expansion would increase the plant’s capacity to 15.9MMtpa, making it one of the single largest LNG complexes in the Asia-Pacific region.

The company said its work scope for the project includes the installation and hook-up of modular LNG units, as well as structural, mechanical and piping works installation.

“We are pleased that Woodside has once again selected CB&I for this major expansion project,” chief executive Philip Asherman said.

“We were responsible for mechanical erection of the plant’s Train 4 expansion, and we are committed to completing this project safely and on schedule.”

The work is expected to begin onsite next month and should be completed in the first quarter of 2008.

The six equal participants in the NWS Venture are Woodside Energy (operator); BHP Billiton (North West Shelf); BP Developments Australia; Chevron Australia; Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) and Shell Development (Australia).
