AN attack on a tanker carry liquefied natural gas would cause an intense fire that would burn nearby buildings, damage steel tanks and cause blistering burns on people within 30 seconds, according to a new US government report.

Some US politicians and community groups have been saying new LNG import terminals should not be located near population centres.

Dozens of new LNG import terminals have been proposed for the US to tackle rising demand for gas.
