In a statement PLN Director Ali Herman Ibrahim said, “The terminal will be vital for PLN owing to the shortage of gas supply for its gas-fired power plants in West Java and Jakarta [and] PLN and Petronas are currently discussing a development plan.”
Although Ali did not elaborate further, it is understood the terminal is expected to cost US$300 million and will begin operations in 2006 or 2007. The terminal will initially have a handling capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day, which will later be expanded to 800 million cubic feet per day.
