In a statement EMA said, “The study, which will evaluate the economic, business and technical aspects of LNG importation, will also attempt to identify possible and suitable sites for an LNG terminal.”

“The feasibility study [will] be released mid-2005 [but the] LNG terminal could be more than six or seven years away,” it added.

EMA, following the recent series of nationwide power outages, has been tasked by the Singaporean government to “examine the possibilities of diversifying [Singapore’s] sources for natural gas”.
