MLNG Tiga secures Japan and South Korea sales

The consortium that owns the Malaysia LNG (MLNG) Tiga plant in Bintulu, Sarawak, has announced that it has secured the sale of 5.5 million tonnes of LNG to Japanese and South Korean buyers.

The maximum capacity per annum of the plant is 6.8 million tonnes and according to one of the stakeholders – Nippon Oil Corp – further negotiations are underway with utility companies in Japan for the sale of the balance.

The president and CEO of Nippon Oil, Fumiaki Watari, did not reveal how much the contracts were worth. He also did not mention the names of the Korean companies that LNG would be sold to. What he did say was, “The 5.5 million tonnes have been contracted to (among others) Tokyo Gas Co Ltd, Osaka Gas Co Ltd, Toho Gas Co Ltd and Tohoku Electric Power Co Inc.”

MLNG Tiga is owned by a consortium made up of Petronas (60%), the Sarawak State Government (10%), Nippon Oil LNG (Netherlands) BV (10%), Shell Gas BV (15%) and Diamond Gas (Netherlands) BV (5%).
