According to the Times of India, all 2.5 million tonnes of imported LNG have been snapped up.
Amongst the orders the company had to turn away was 7 million standard cu metres per day of LNG required by the state-run National Thermal Power Corp.
According to Petronet’s director of finance, P. Dasgupta, “We don’t have any extra LNG left. Our offtakers GAIL, IOC and BPCL are selling gas at market rates to 40 industries as per schedule.”
“Our LNG has been sold out without the power and fertiliser customers, who consume 80% of the natural gas. We may be in a position to meet some of the supply demands of the two sectors from next year when our Dahej plant starts operating at full capacity of five million tonnes,” added the official who confirmed the company would be doubling the capacity of its Dahej facility (to 10 million tonnes by 2007-2008) to meet the extra demand.
