According to the San Diego-based company, the facility, which will be built on a 3,000 acre parcel of land owned by the company, will be capable of processing around 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per annum.
The terminal, one of three Sempra hopes to construct in North America (the other two will be in Louisiana and Mexico) will include three 160,000 cubic metre storage tanks and two unloading berths. Commencement of operations is scheduled for 2009.
As per the norm in the US, Sempra has submitted a pre-filing notification with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to begin the process of securing approval for the project. At press time, no protests against the setting of the terminal, which has dogged similar projects up and down the US, have been recorded.
