In April 2001, then-Shell president Alan Parsley said following the failed Shell bid for Woodside, the company would be looking to independently market the Gorgon gas. Prior to that, Gorgon gas, North West Shelf gas and Timor Sea gas were all marketed as one to avoid confusing prospective LNG buyers.
"We wanted to present a united face for Australia," Parsley said at the time. Shell is a one sixth partner in the North West Shelf and a two seventh partner in the Gorgon project.
The newly badged North West Shelf Australia has also appointed John Banner as president, seconding him from ChevronTexaco. He is a former marketing executive for Caltex Australia.
His predecessor, Arthur Dixon, is returning to Shell after three and a half years in the job.
