The Indonesian government supposes that PT LPN's hydropower projects would suffer from a lack of water supply during the island's annual dry spells. It also is of the opinion that the PT LPN should make full use of the abundant supply of LNG that it says makes the idea of gas-fuelled plants more feasible and practical.

Indonesia is the world's largest supplier of LNG.
